Getting Started with CostLoop

Set up CostLoop in a few minutes and start tracking every subscription and recurring cost your business pays for. Follow the six steps below.

  1. Create your account

    Head to costloop.app and click Get started free. Registration takes under a minute - no credit card required.

  2. Log in to CostLoop

    Once your account is created, log in at app.costloop.app. Keep this tab open while you complete the remaining steps.

  3. Install the Chrome extension

    Install the CostLoop Email Scanner from the Chrome Web Store. The extension scans your Gmail or Outlook inbox for subscription and billing emails using a secure, read-only connection.

  4. Connect Gmail or Outlook

    Click the CostLoop icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension. Follow the prompt to connect your Gmail or Outlook account via your provider's OAuth screen.

    What the extension accesses CostLoop reads sender, subject, date, and message ID from messages in your inbox to identify billing emails, and for messages it identifies as likely billing emails, it also reads the message content to extract subscription details such as vendor, price, and renewal date. Provider access is handled through CostLoop's secure server-side connection, and raw email content is not retained - only the subscription details you choose to import (service name, cost, renewal date) are saved to your account.   5. Scan your inbox

    Press Scan inside the extension. CostLoop will search your connected inbox for billing emails, renewal notices, and subscription receipts.

  6. Import your subscriptions

    Review the list of subscriptions the scan found. Select the ones you want to track and click Import. They will appear immediately on your CostLoop dashboard, complete with renewal dates and amounts.

    From here you can set renewal alerts, assign costs to categories, and export reports whenever you need them.

Common questions

Does CostLoop store my emails?

No. CostLoop does not retain raw email content. Only the subscription details it finds (service name, amount, renewal date) are saved to your CostLoop account. See the scanner privacy and permissions page for the full breakdown of what's read and stored.

Which email accounts are supported?

The extension currently supports Gmail (Google Workspace and personal Gmail accounts) and Outlook (Microsoft 365 and personal Outlook accounts). More providers may be added over time.

Do I need a paid plan to get started?

No. CostLoop has a free plan that covers the full setup flow including scanning and importing. Paid plans unlock additional features such as team seats and advanced reporting. See Pricing for details.
